Mr. GQ pageant cancelled

Due to lack of interest, Asbury men will not be competing for the coveted “Mr. GQ” title this spring.
In the past, one or two of the four classes at Asbury have sponsored the male beauty pageant as a fundraiser. Various organizations, halls, clubs and other groups pay to enter a Mr. GQ contestant as the club’s representative. Two years ago, the Awakened class partnered with the Unashamed class to sponsor the program, and they sponsored it again on their own last year.
According to Awakened class president Zach Bennett, the class didn’t make much money from the event the past two years they sponsored it, but they did break even. This year, however, they didn’t have enough contestants signed up to fill the normal length of time, and it was likely they wouldn’t make enough to pay for the event itself. They were also having trouble finding judges for the event.
According to Bennett, the Awakened class does plan to try to bring the event back next year.
“Hopefully [there will] be more interest, and people will realize how much they enjoyed it,” Bennett said. “Half the school won’t even know what it is, so maybe more people will be willing to participate.”
