It is that time of year again — time for long cozy sweaters, warming your hands with a yummy pumpkin spice latte, taking trips to the pumpkin patch or getting lost in a corn maze. You’ve been tweeting and retweeting pictures of pretty fall leaves for weeks and it’s finally time to break out that autumn wardrobe. However, before you spend your money investing in another pair of boot socks or flannel consider adding one or more of these new and returning fall trends to your wardrobe:
1. Blanket Scarves
Blanket scarves are a favorite returner from last fall’s trends, and I’m predicting they will be on rotation for years to come. Whether you are dressing them up with a shift dress and boots or dressing down with a comfy cardigan and leggings, blanket scarves will keep you warm and looking stylish while you transition into fall and winter. Plaid and chunky knit scarves are also a fall staple item for men.

2. Felt Hats
Felt hats are new on the scene this year and quickly becoming one of this season’s hottest trends. With a variety of different shapes and neutral colors to choose from such as beige, forest green, plum or chocolate brown, you pick what looks best on you! Felt hats are also great for second-day hair when the dry shampoo just isn’t cutting it. Neutral beanies and ball caps are also currently trending for men and women.

3. Corduroy Skirts
Corduroy skirts are my all-time favorite new trend for this autumn. They first made their appearance on the NYC street scene and are now becoming an essential closet staple piece because of their versatility. These skirts come in a variety of colors ranging from burgundy to mustard. They can be paired with boot socks and booties when the weather gets chillier, then paired with tights and tall boots for winter. Corduroy jackets for men also hit the NYC runway during this year’s fashion week.

4. Military Vest
Military or Army vests are another oldie but goodie from last fall but have come back in a variety of ways including jackets and different colors such as beige and burgundy. Military vests are fall’s most needed style item for their versatility, warmth and comfort. They can be layered over a long sleeve striped tee or glammed up with a staple necklace and clutch. Men can incorporate this laid back look into their wardrobe in the form of bomber jackets. Bomber jackets can also come in a variety of looks and colors depending on your own personal style.

5. Joggers
Not to be confused with Mick Jagger, joggers are one of this season’s top trends for men. Joggers add a new flair to the classic khaki and a little edge to the comfortable lounge pant. Joggers come in all different styles and colors ranging from black to forest green. Due to their versatility, the right pair of joggers can be paired with anything from a more formal sweater to a plain white tee. For women, joggers also come in several different styles and prints. The most popular colors for this fall are classic black or army green for a casual yet trendy look.
