Meet the Executive Cabinet

 Elijah Lutz

Position: Student Body President

Class: Merciful

Major: Political Science/History

Hometown: Ironton, Ohio

Why did you decide to run for this position?

I have been involved in Asbury Student Congress since my freshman year. ASC is something that I have poured a great deal of time and energy into, and I have loved every minute of it. Since my time as a freshman Student Congress Representative, I have known that I wanted to be Student Body President. I ran because I have many ideas and a vision for ASC, and I want to see them come to fruition.

What are you most looking forward to in your new role?

Getting the ability to serve Asbury even more, and start giving back even more to the campus community that has given me so much. Furthermore, I am excited to have a chance to lead the organization I have loved so much and to represent a campus community that I hold very dear to my heart.

What is one interesting thing you want campus to know about you?

I once met Vice President Joe Biden and called him “Uncle Joe” to his face.

Betsy Shifflett

Position: Vice President of Student Governance

Class: Visionary

Major: Political Science

Hometown: North Branch, Michigan

Why did you decide to run for this position?

I decided to run for Vice President of Student Governance because of the experience I have had as the Visionary Class ASC Representative. In this position, I have loved getting to look deeper into the wishes of the class and how to make them a reality, and I am excited to model this for the student body in the year to come.

What are you most looking forward to in your new role?

I am so excited to get to know more students and staff who work so hard and care so much about improving our campus. I am also super excited to work with up-and-coming leaders in student government, in order to empower them and help them prepare for future leadership roles on our campus.

What is one interesting thing you want campus to know about you?

I am introverted, and a bit shy, but friendly! So come talk to me and let me know what you want to see happen on campus or just so I can get you know you better!

Maggie Richwine

Position: Vice President of Student Activities

Class: Visionary

Major: Communications

Hometown: Cincinnati, Ohio

Why did you decide to run for this position?

I want to serve Asbury because it has done so much for me in the two years that I have been a student here! I want to create events that appeal to different types of people and enhance events on campus that everyone already knows and loves.

What are you most looking forward to in your new role?

I am looking forward to working with my fellow EC members and being able to collaborate with more of the student body.

What is one interesting thing you want campus to know about you?

I love ice cream. Literally hit me up any time and I will for sure be in the mood for ice cream.

Stephanie Beltran

Position: Vice President of Student Intercultural Programs

Class: Merciful

Major: Business

Hometown: St.Johnsbury, Vermont

Why did you decide to run for this position?

Since the creation of this branch, I had an interest in being a part of it, whatever that may look like. This year, I was able to work with the position as a co-chair of one of its committees, and that made me realize how much I genuinely cared about all the work this branch has the potential to do in the realm of racial reconciliation for Asbury.

What are you most looking forward to in your new role?

Having the opportunity to create a space at Asbury for all students to feel validated in telling their stories and feeling understood in their different cultural experiences.

What is one interesting thing you want campus to know about you?

I’m an avid yoyo-er.

Kat Brown

Position: Vice President of Spiritual Life

Class: Visionary

Major: Media Communications & Philosophy

Hometown: Wilmore, Kentucky

Why did you decide to run for this position?

I decided to run for this position for several reasons, but mostly because of the passion that I have for Spiritual Life on campus.

What are you most looking forward to in your new role?

I am most looking forward to engaging in more conversations with students about how we can meet them where they are in their spiritual journey.

What is one interesting thing you want campus to know about you?

I’m actually from Canada and have dual citizenship!

Hannah Furman

Position: Executive Secretary

Class: Visionary

Major: Social Work

Hometown: Suffern, New York

Why did you decide to run for this position?

I ran for this position with the hope that I could serve this student body and encourage them that their voice matters! There is so much joy in humbling oneself to lift others up and I am excited to see how my faith will grow as I transition into this new position!

What are you most looking forward to in your new role?

I feel like my position is sort of neutral in the sense that I get to work with all of the branches on ASC. I think it is going to be awesome to see all the work being done in Student Governance, Student Activities, Student Intercultural Programs and Spiritual Life, and I will [be] blessed getting to speak with all of the student leaders dedicated to fostering the Lord’s work on this campus.

What is one interesting thing you want campus to know about you?

My favorite song, hands down, is “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” by Whitney Houston. I will never get tired of that song. I encourage everyone to listen to it and if you ever want to jam out together, I’m down.

Yun Li Tan

Position: Executive Treasurer

Class: Visionary

Major: Accounting

Hometown: Guang Zhou, China – the land of RICE

Why did you decide to run for this position?

I originally thought I wouldn’t have the time to campaign for the position, but I’ve since learned a lot about surrendering my time and activities to God. Long story short, I ran unopposed, and now I can’t wait to help manage funds for EC and see what we can do for campus!

What are you most looking forward to in your new role?

Definitely the people. Being able to recognize faces on campus and having spontaneous conversations with people bring me unspeakable joy, so hopefully my new role will be a chance for me to meet (and better serve!) the student body.

What is one interesting thing you want campus to know about you?

I love hugs! But that’s less of an interesting thing and more of a well-known fact.

Taryn Cipkowski

Executive Publicist

Major: Communications (Social Media) & Art (Photography)

Hometown: Louisville, Kentucky

Why did you decide to run for this position?

Several friends had recommended to me that I think about running for Publicist, but I had never seen myself in a leadership role in my time here. But, after putting thought and prayer into it, I decided to go for it… and, here we are!

What are you most looking forward to in your new role?

To be able to implement some fun ideas that I have been coming up with and being able to follow in Kaiser’s footsteps (jk I’m actually terrified).

What is one interesting thing you want campus to know about you?

I am originally from #SoCal, so that will explain everything.
