Behind every game, outreach and polished event that an athletic department puts on, there is someone running the logistics and pulling the strings. At Asbury, that person is Erin Ferguson.
Being a Kentucky native and West Jessamine High School graduate, Ferguson is quite familiar with the area. Although her mother attended Asbury for her undergraduate studies, Ferguson ventured out and earned her degree in business and christian education from Indiana Wesleyan University, where she was also a part of the women’s soccer team.
Coming from an athletic background and participating in collegiate sports herself, Ferguson has a passion for the positive influence that athletics can have on student growth and success. “Sports, and being part of a team, has been such a big part of my development,” said Ferguson. “College was a really influential time in my life where I was challenged, and I was able to develop my own faith.”
The vision of integrating spiritual vitality alongside athletic ability and education was a call close to Ferguson’s heart. “Me and my husband have been in ministry for the last 15 years, and so I know that my values and my strengths are in service,” said Ferguson.
Thus, two years after returning to the area for her husband’s work, Ferguson heard about the job opening as an athletic administrative assistant at Asbury and promptly applied. After joining the staff one year ago, Ferguson has tremendously helped the athletic department begin to run as a well-oiled machine. She serves primarily as the right-hand woman for Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Mark Whitworth. Helping to turn ideas into action, Ferguson handles most of the logistics behind all the events that the athletic department is a part of.
“My role in the athletics department is to help the coaches and our vice president succeed,” said Ferguson. “So day to day, I am really just working on helping the department move forward.” And she has served to do exactly that. From making sure that senior awards get presented to organizing team travel plans and making fundraiser deposits, Ferguson handles it all.
