Asbury Student Congress (ASC) is a student-led body representing different clubs, organizations and academic groups on campus. In an effort to increase accountability and inform the student body of the things Executive Cabinet (EC) is trying to accomplish through ASC, this section will give a brief detail of meetings. ASC meetings are held once every month in the Miller Screening Room and are open for all students to attend. The next meeting will be held Oct. 15 at 10:50 a.m.
Budget Approval
Treasurer Yun Li Tan presented the 2019-20 fiscal year budget and it was approved by assembly vote.
Branch Reports:
Student Governance Association (SGA) freshman class cabinet speeches were Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. in the Stuce. Voting occurred Sept. 18-20.
Spiritual Life Board (SLB) hosted Worship Him At Midnight (WHAM) on Aug. 23 and Sept. 13. The next WHAM is on Oct. 11 at 10:30 p.m. in the Stuce.
Student Activities Board (SAB) hosted the Welcome Back Bash Aug. 17 and Water Palooza Sept. 6, and has begun planning the Family Bash happening Oct. 4 at 5:30 p.m. on the Reasoner Green.
Student Intercultural Programs (SIP) is working to restructure, since the branch was created only three years ago. The branch is focusing on organization and collaborating with other groups, such as bringing multicultural worship to WHAM.
Open Floor Announcements:
The Last Man Standing club is having an informational meeting on Sept. 24 and 25 from 8-8:30 p.m. in the Stuce for those who want to learn about the Taggers v. Survivors game. The game takes place Sept. 26 through Oct. 3.
Black Student Alliance (BSA) is partnering with SIP to host a poetry, music and art night in the outdoor classroom Sept. 26 at 7 p.m.
The Self Defense Club is hosting a coed martial arts class in the Glide-Crawford (GC) gym Sept. 26 at 7:30 p.m.
The movie committee is hosting an outdoor movie night in the GC courtyard Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. They will be showing “The Emperor’s New Groove” and serving popcorn. They encourage bringing your own couch.
The Salvation Army Student Fellowship will be holding a retreat Sept. 27-29. The cost to attend is $25 and covers meals and entry to King’s Island. They also announced that they have vans making trips to Walmart or other shopping centers available each weekend for students without vehicles.
