In light of Valentine’s Day, there are sure to be plenty of dates off campus. But what
happens when you don’t have a car, want to stay on campus or decided it was a good
night to hang out with your closest group of friends? Never fear; Asbury has plenty to
do, including a campus classic: the annual Trustees Tunnel of Love.
“Tunnel of Love is a unique, awkward, but must-have experience,” said Trustees
resident and junior Brandon Pruitt.
Each Valentine’s Day, the men of Trustees Hall decorate each of their halls in different
themes, and all students are able to walk through and enjoy the hard work and creativity
they’ve put in to transform their hallways.
“The theme this year is romantic movies,” said Trustees Assistant Resident Director
Dylan Johnson. “Anywhere from ‘Nacho Libre’ to ‘The Princess Bride’ will be featured
and it’ll be cool to see how the guys portray them! We always spend all weekend
working on the event because it’s a blast and we want people to enjoy their time and
interact.”
The event is always well-attended and fun for students to visit their friends.
“It’s genuinely one of my favorite things at Asbury,” Johnson said.
But Tunnel of Love isn’t the only event happening on Valentine’s Day weekend. For
those who want a little more sophistication, the music department has a concert with
two performances in Jameson Recital Hall on Friday, the first at 6 p.m. and the second
at 8 p.m.
“The Valentine’s Concert is always one of my favorites to perform because they are
always so emotion-filled,” said senior Ali Steifel, a member of the Asbury Chorale. “Last
year there were so many people in attendance that the recital hall reached its maximum
capacity.”
For those looking for a more casual event, the Student Center is showing the classic
romantic comedy “Hitch,” starring Will Smith, at 9 p.m., sponsored by the Student
Activities Board.
