The victor of the 2020 presidential race remains unclear due to the large number of absentee ballots to be counted. The race between President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden is close, and each state is taking necessary time to ensure accuracy.
While the presidential votes are still being tallied, votes for the Senate have been collected and called.
Republican Mitch McConnell keeps his seat after defeating Amy McGrath, the Democratic nominee. McConnell received 58.2% of the vote, topping McGrath who received 37%, according to the Associated Press.
This is the seventh consecutive congressional win for the Senate Majority Leader. McConnell is also the longest-serving senator in the history of Kentucky.
“The people of Kentucky had a clear choice, and they sent a clear message. Tonight, Kentuckians said that challenging times need proven leadership,” McConnell said during his delivery speech in Louisville on Nov. 3.
However, it is currently unclear whether McConnell will continue to be the majority leader of the Senate. This will depend on whether the GOP is able to secure enough Senate seats in other states to keep power of the congressional chamber.
