2020 was a year of the unexpected. With the unknown of sports continuing to play, professional teams found a way. Coming into the new year, professional sports are adapting to the new way of life.
COVID-19 is going nowhere anytime soon. Protocols have been in place to assure the safety of the players. With more information and data on the virus, leagues like the NBA, NFL, MLB, WNBA and more are finding ways to have their respective seasons during the pandemic.
Protocols include players getting tested every day before they are allowed to compete in games and being required to wear a mask unless they are competing. Leagues like the NBA and NFL do not allow post-game interaction with the opposing teams. Fans are not allowed in certain arenas. There are consequences for players not following the COVID protocols that their respective leagues have put in place.
Postponed and cancelled games are bound to happen due to this pandemic. Leagues are set on continuing their season regardless. NBA’s commissioner Adam Silver spoke to CNBC about just that. “We anticipated that there would be game postponements this season and planned the schedule accordingly. There are no plans to pause the season, and we will continue to be guided by our medical experts and health and safety protocols.”
With both NBA and NFL seasons currently going on right now, other leagues will take notice of what went well and what did not.
