Chapel returned to its original in-person, three times per week format for the first time since spring of 2020. Yet the process of how Asbury University’s chapel services has been adjusted for the fall 2021 semester.
In addition, the university is implementing the Faith, Learning, and Experience (FLEX) program, a new metric serving to select and track the 36 spiritual life credits students are required to accrue throughout the semester. Of these 36 credits, 30 must come from chapel attendances, while the remaining 6 may be obtained from further chapel attendances or through other FLEX opportunities.
FLEX credits will be tracked through a free smartphone app called iAttended. Students will log their attendance through this app by scanning QR-codes provided at FLEX events. Students who do not have smartphones can go to iattendedapp.com prior to a FLEX event and print out a QR-code from the “Scan Me” link. This print-out can then be given to a chapel assistant or a university chapel team member, who will use it to scan the student in and out.
In the event that a student forgets to bring their smartphone or QR-code, a Spiritual Life staff member can provide an attendance ticket to be turned in to Kevin Dean in the Student Life office. Tickets must be turned in within 24 hours.
For students assigned to remote-learning for quarantine, FLEX credits may still be obtained by viewing chapel streams online and logging them in the iAttended app.
Part-time students taking between 6 and 12 credit hours are only required to obtain 18 FLEX credits. Students taking less than 6 credits have no FLEX requirements, but are still welcome to attend FLEX events.
Students who do not meet FLEX requirements will receive chapel probation or chapel suspension.
