Asbury University will stream on screens around the world beginning in October on season two of The College Tour.
In early August, a film crew rolled into Wilmore, Ky. to shoot Asbury’s campus. The show crew’s director, Daren Woolsey, who has worked on various programs such as “Survivor,” “The World’s Toughest Race,” and “The Biggest Loser” accompanied “Amazing Race” season two winner, Alex Boylan, to capture the university’s spiritual and community life.
“Shooting The College Tour at Asbury has been a pure delight!” Woolsey said. “Starting with the red-carpet welcome from the Asbury staff, to the across-the-board preparedness of each student we filmed with, I felt the close-knit community vibe. It honestly did not feel like work at all because we had too much fun.”
The show films student segments to tell the larger story of each university through the lens of each student’s unique experiences. Asbury’s episode of The College Tour will replicate what it means to be an Asburian, whether that includes walking into Wilmore to thrift and eat ice cream after a day of classes, getting to know professors, or attending a weekly Bible study amongst fellow students.
“I think it’s an amazing experience to get to share about Asbury and what God is doing here, what He’s been doing, and what He’s going to continue to do,” said Colton Back, an Asbury graduate student involved in the filming. “I think there’s a lot of good things happening here and to get to share it at a level like this is pretty special.”
The show features key areas in and around campus that excite the student body such as The HICCUP, Asbury hiking trails, the Equine Center, and the Luce Center. The university’s episode will also highlight sports teams including volleyball, which starts its NCAA Division III journey this fall. University President Dr. Kevin Brown’s segment touched on Belonging and Becoming.
“Whenever we do these shows, I realize the future is in good hands,” Woolsey noted about the caliber of students he met at Asbury.
The university intends on celebrating the episode’s premier by hosting a red-carpet event, followed by a formal screening of the show. The College Tour episode can be streamed on Amazon Prime with a subscription and can be watched for free on The College Tour website https://www.thecollegetour.com/.
