COVID testing now available on campus

COVID-19 testing is now available on Asbury University’s campus, open by appointment from 1-5 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The other nearest campus providing tests is the University of Kentucky in Lexington.

Partnering with Wild Health, those Asbury students hired are trained to administer COVID-19 tests. Students are provided with personal protective equipment (PPE) and a $17.25/hr starting pay. There are currently around 18 trained employees.

Trainees went to Lexington and learned about the anatomy of the nose and the locations they needed to test. Then, they began testing each other and received the test themselves.

Asbury’s site is at 101 W. Main St. between Kinlaw library and Johnson dorm. Across the street and to the left, there is a small tent in the back of a parking lot. Testing is entirely free, and insurance is not required. Results come back within 24-48 hours via email.

Daniel Sullivan, an operations coordinator from Wild Health, works along with Asbury students at the testing site and hopes to expand the availability of hours so Asbury students and anyone in the community or general vicinity can receive the COVID-19 tests.
