The fashion of Asbury

Who would you point to if you were asked to describe Asbury’s fashion sense?

Sometimes it’s the most youth-pastory-looking person on campus, and sometimes it is the person who looks like they’re going to the Cheesecake factory every time we see them. This week, we focus on three Asbury students who have a distinct look throughout their wardrobes and who or what gives them their inspiration for their fashion sense.

First up, we have junior Katie Bruner. Bruner is an Elementary Education major and styles her outfits accordingly. She has a simplistic teacher-Esque style but always keeps her clothing fashionable, comfortable, and cute.

“I love the joyful and professional style I see in the schools that I work and learn in,” Bruner said. “The things that I wear are very inspired by the practicality of being cute and kid-friendly. Being able to move comfortably and freely while also feeling confident are my number-one priorities when I am choosing my outfit for the day.”

Zane Isaacs is the second Asbury student who has a particular way of styling his closet.

Isaacs’ inspiration for his outfits comes from his fiancee and stylist, Madelyn Barren. After discussion with the two of them, we concluded that his style gives “Sorry, I need to take this business call *flips scarf over shoulder*” vibes, and we’re here for it. Isaacs is a Senior Business Administration major. He and Barren are planning a wedding for October of 2022.

Last but most certainly not least, we will take a look at junior Daniella Okhotnikova. Okhotnikova, a Worship Arts major, has a sense of style that always has people turning heads. “The idea of only wearing what is comfortable is very important to me,” they said. “How I look actually comes second.”

You may have seen Okhotnikova around campus bearing yellow head-to-toe, looking like a ball of sunshine at all times. They state that “becoming more purposeful with my money, what companies I support with my purchases, and what clothes I buy, forces me to choose my pieces wisely.”

While supporting a business that has at least some sense of morality is a big deal to Okhotnikova, leaving people with a “sense of wonder and/or confusion about me, so I lean more on the androgynous side of style,” they said.

Okhotnikova is unique in their style because in choosing their outfits, they depend on how they feel and how they want to express themselves. Their inspiration comes from Lily Kesten, Wyatt Martin, Professor Kristina Erny, and the one and only Harry Styles.
