Louisville resident indicted for attempted shooting of mayoral candidate

On Mar. 28, Louisville resident Quintez Brown was indicted for the attempted shooting of Louisville mayoral candidate Craig Greenberg.

The shooting took place on Feb. 14, inside Greenberg’s campaign office. Greenberg was in his office when an individual entered the room and fired multiple rounds. According to a statement released by Jefferson County Attorney Tom Wine, four members of Greenberg’s campaign staff were present during the shooting. One of the staff members, who was close to the door, could get it to shut and barricaded before anyone was hurt.

“Let me say again that all of us are blessed,” Greenberg told Fox 56, “and I’m blessed to be standing here today with you. Despite one bullet coming so close that it grazed my sweater and my shirt, no one was physically harmed, and we’re extraordinarily grateful for our safety. We are shaken but safe.”

A Louisville grand jury indicted Brown on one count of attempted murder and four counts of first-degree wanton endangerment.

Brown has been on house arrest with an ankle monitor since being released on bond following his arrest on the day of the shooting. Brown’s $100,000 bond was paid by the Louisville Community Bail Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to posting bail for inmates and rehabilitating them once they leave prison.

The posting of the bail was criticized by Greenberg, who told Fox 56 that he and his team were “traumatized” by the news of Brown’s release and that it was “impossible to believe.”

During Brown’s initial Feb. hearings, his lawyer stated that Brown has “serious mental issues.”

Before the shooting, Brown was an outspoken presence on social media. He advocated for organizations from civil rights activist group Black Lives Matter to the Lion of Judah Armed Forces, which is categorized as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Brown was also running for Louisville Metro Council. Brown will be arraigned on his charges on Apr. 4.
