Asbury University is offering a diverse selection of Spiritual Life events for students.
Compline chapel sessions are held in the Kinlaw Library Chapel, Thursdays at 9:30 pm.
Compline is an ancient prayer practice dating back to the early days of the church, which Asbury seeks to uphold. According to an email from the Office of Spiritual Life, the translation of the Common Book of Prayer Asbury uses for Compline can be traced back to the Rule of St. Benedict, written in the early 500’s.
According to the Office of Spiritual Life, Compline is a brief service, with a typical duration of about 20 minutes, with the majority of that time dedicated to prayer.
World Gospel Mission (WGM) hosts its Global Cafe every Sunday at 6:00 pm in the WGM Student Center, located at 420 W. College Street.
According to WGM’s website, Global Cafes offer “coffee, tea, cookies, and a great community of people.” The event includes worship service followed by shared experiences from WGM missionaries and guest speakers. Afterwards, attendees are encouraged to stick around for fellowship and “ a good home-cooked meal.” The Global Cafe held on Sept. 25 will include a special Worship Night.
Tuesdays at 7:00 pm, One Mission Society (OMS) hosts its CoSeek meetings, located across the street from Asbury on Kenyon Ave.
“Come out for a great night of snacks and desserts with moving worship and authentic discussions about faith and life where we look to God’s word for direction,” OMS Director David Schnake said in an email. “We are building a missional community around the values of prayer, biblical accountability, authentic relationships, Kingdom community and saying ‘Yes’ to God.”
As of Sept. 23, the CoSeek meetings are focusing on “Spiritual Disciplines,” supplemented by the book You Are What You Love by James K. A. Smith.
Asbury’s Salvation Army Student Fellowship (SASF) hosts its weekly meeting on Sundays at 6:00 pm, in its Student Center at 402 W College Street. The meetings are not exclusive to SASF members, and newcomers are encouraged to attend and have fellowship with members.
