There’s No Place Like Home
Asbury’s very own, Allie Rhodes, attended Asbury University receiving her undergraduate degree in 1997, followed by a master’s degree in 2003. She knew Asbury was home when she came back years later to teach.
“My favorite part of the Asbury community is the kindness that abounds and the feeling of home. Asbury is a community that is unlike any I have experienced,” said Rhodes. “My favorite part of being an Asbury professor is the students.”
Rhodes taught in the public school system for 13 years, teaching in P-12 schools before reuniting with Asbury University in the fall of 2017.
“At Asbury, I love chatting with students about life and love that I can pray for and with them here. I enjoy finding ways to engage the students with interesting activities and love when they ask me questions,” said Rhodes.
Rhodes teaches education courses on methods and assessment in special education, differentiation, collaboration and inclusion, and assistive technology among other topics which she is very passionate about.
“I think my students now would agree that I am very passionate about what I teach, that I will do anything for them, and I am a good listener,” said Rhodes.
Asbury offers so many programs for anyone’s interests. Rhodes encourages students to get involved with these extracurriculars as much as possible.
“I love that Asbury offers so many options for students to explore their interests and try new things. I always encourage my students to participate in the many clubs, events, and activities as I too like to join in on the fun,” said Rhodes.
Rhodes values the opportunities here at Asbury and wants all the education major students to know that there are so many options for them available.
“A few days ago in class, a student asked me a question, and I went over to her smiling. She said how much she liked how excited I get when a question is asked. Teaching future educators about teaching is what I am the most passionate about,” said Rhodes.
When she’s not teaching at the University, you can find Rhodes drinking coffee, engaging in a musical, reading, learning languages, spending time with family and more.
“I often drop lines from my favorite musicals in class…only a few are noticed…haha” said Rhodes.
