The largest U.S. Christian music tour is coming back to Lexington’s own Rupp Arena on Friday, Jan. 27.
Originally called “January Jam” by creators NewSong and the promotions company, Premier Productions, Winter Jam has annually run since 1995 with some of the biggest names in contemporary Christian music.
This year features We The Kingdom, Jeremy Camp, Anne Wilson, Andy Mineo, Disciple, Austin French and NewSong. There will also be “pre jam” artists such as Thrive Worship, Sean Be and Renee with speaker Zane Black.
Co-founder of NewSong Eddie Carswell said, “I’m so excited about the lineup this year. I think it’s one of my all time favorites.”
This will be Dove-award-winning Anne Wilson and We The Kingdom’s first time performing at Winter Jam.
“Several of us grew up going to Winter Jam,” the band told magazine MusicRow. “What a powerful time to unify together and let the love and hope of God be poured out in the room over every heart each night.”
Asbury freshman Madison Sallee said she was “ecstatic to worship God” with her friends, especially since Grammy-nominated Jeremy Camp, known for hits such as “I Still Believe,” is headlining the event.
“I always look forward to touring with many of my favorite bands on Winter Jam,” Camp told MusicRow. “The community that Winter Jam provides and cultivates is always encouraging to my group and I love that their heart for the Gospel and reaching people are always front and center of what they do!”
In a separate interview with AL News, Camp went on to say he believes there is more of an appreciation for events like Winter Jam since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. He claims there is not only more interaction but more excitement.
“I think when you’re shut down and can’t do anything for almost two years … I think that people are just so grateful,” Camp said. “I think the appreciation of not taking for granted the opportunity, people are starting to get that, and they’re stepping into these concerts going, ‘I’m not going to take for granted the fact we can be here tonight.’ That’s one of the things I’m sensing from people, for sure.”
Asbury freshman Morgan Flannery concurred with Camp, saying she was excited to see the artists in person, yet more thrilled to be worshiping with her community.
“I can’t wait to experience the environment at Winter Jam with everyone worshiping our great God!” Flannery said.
The event will be held on Friday, Jan. 27 at 7:00 pm. Tickets will be sold at the door for $15.
