Journalism’s ‘Pressing Matters’ series to host Cal Thomas

Veteran journalist and author Cal Thomas will speak at Asbury on Friday, March 24, at 3 p.m., for a student session and again at 7 p.m. for a public lecture in Hughes Auditorium. The events are part of the journalism department’s “Pressing Matters” speaker series.

“Asbury has long been a training ground for young people in their development of a biblical worldview which is needed especially in our day,” Thomas said. “I am happy to have been invited to share my own worldview and to encourage students in their walk with Christ.”

A veteran of broadcast and print journalism with a twice-weekly column appearing in hundreds of newspapers, Thomas is one of the most widely read and one of the most highly regarded voices on the American political scene. For 19 years, he was a commentator on Fox News Channel, which included his own show “After Hours” and as a panelist for “Fox News Watch.” For 10 years, he and Bob Beckel wrote the “Common Ground” column for USA Today. He’s also worked for NBC News, hosted his own program on CBNC that was nominated for a Cable ACE Award in 1995 and received the William F. Buckley, Jr. Award for Media Excellence from the Media Research Center.

Thomas brings a wealth of knowledge and experience as a Christian in media that he will share with the Asbury community.

Most recently, he authored a book entitled A Watchman in the Night, highlighting what he’s seen working as a reporter in America for more than 50 years in pursuit of truth.

The evening event is free and open to the public. To learn more about Thomas, visit calthomas.com.
