Senior Annie Wilder has achieved many accomplishments during her music career here at Asbury University. Since being involved in Asbury Chorale since her first semester, and now her Senior Recital, Wilder remains very involved.
“Being involved in the chorale since my freshman mind has been one of the biggest joys of being a music major on campus,” said Wilder.
Wilder is blessed to also be a part in the Asbury Old Time String Band. This band doesn’t perform concerts but is able to play outside on the porch of Old Asbury together on sunny days.
She reminisces on the events she’s been a part of at Asbury and says that “Songs of the Season” was without a doubt her favorite event during her time here.
However, March 30 was when Annie got to see her music career come to life, in the annual senior recitals at Asbury. Her senior recital, in the words of her professors, is “the culmination of her studies at Asbury.”
Wilder sung twelve songs in many different languages: Italian, French, German, and of course, English.
“I have a feeling that most of my nerves will turn into joy as the program goes on,” she said.
Growing up, Annie never thought her major would lead her into being a classically trained musician.
“I was spooked by the class load, the competition, the required recital, and more,” said Wilder. “However, God wouldn’t let the idea out of my head, and I eventually decided that if I didn’t study music, I would always wonder what my life would’ve looked like if I had.
This is when Annie took the leap of God’s calling for her musical gift and ran with it. She quickly discovered that music “gave her the confidence needed to prove that she could so the hard stuff.”
For the future, Wilder eventually plans to pursue a Masters in counseling, so she can work with students that need guidance or who “don’t know what to do.”
Yet, “As of now, I’m not exactly sure what the future has for me,” said Wilder.
She will graduate in April 2023 alongside the rest of the Surrendered Class.
