Asbury University’s communication program has been evolving and expanding, culminating in a new concentration, sports communication.
The concentration is set to require 53 credit hours and will take students through the media side hand-in-hand with the business side of sports.
Some classes involved relate to media performance, marketing in sports, news broadcasting and public relations.
“Everybody loves sports, and this degree is designed to open opportunities for students to work in the sports industry, having honed their communication skills,” said the Associate Professor of Communication, Dr. Jim Shores. “Whether you’re a sports communication director, content creator, marketing specialist or social media manager, you will be well prepared for success.”
Through Asbury’s vast array of connections in the media field, students have found internships with NFL football teams like the Tennessee Titans and Cincinnati Bengals, as well as other organizations like NASCAR, NFL Films and the PGA Tour.
The sports communications concentration will be offered starting fall semester of 2024.
