This month, Asbury’s Student Activities Committee (SAC) is bringing back a classic campus-wide event, Movie on the Green. It will take place on the Reasoner Green.
This event provides a way for new and old students to connect with one another. It also emulates a classic tradition in American history, the outdoor movie.
Continuing an annual tradition that has gone on for a decade, Movie on the Green has solidified itself as a student favorite on Asbury’s campus, with the number of people who attend growing every year.
The original event was put on by the Asbury Student Congress in 2014, where they played The Lego Movie. It was described as community building by many students at the time, which holds true today.
It was such a hit with the student population that the event has been a staple for the last ten years and has featured movies such as La La Land, The Princess Diaries and, 2023’s choice, How to Train Your Dragon. This year’s pick is The Incredibles.
There was also a raffle included in the festivities last year, where students had the opportunity to win a dragon stuffed animal and other prizes.
The function keeps on growing with more and more students coming to appreciate what it represents; a time to sit back, relax and enjoy a fun movie with their peers.
Participants are welcome to bring picnic blankets and camping chairs to the event. The Movie on the Green will take place on Sept. 14 at 9 p.m. All students are welcome.
