Asbury’s Bold Student Leaders Conference seeks to invest in student leaders on campus

The upcoming Asbury Bold Student Leaders Conference is a time for Asbury to invest in its student leaders. According to the invitation that was sent to student leaders, the “goal is to equip and empower our student leaders to lead boldly with excellence in their respective areas on campus. This conference will be geared towards developing leadership skills and hearing from other professionals who are excelling in leading others boldly.”

Zachary Fazio stated, “This conference presents a unique opportunity for the Asbury Student Congress to step into a leadership development role for our campus rather than just advocacy or programming on behalf of the university.”

The event will take place over the course of two days. The first day, which is the shorter of the two sessions, will focus on fostering connection among student leaders, introducing participants to Asbury Student Congress (ASC), and inspiring student leaders. Students will hear from Student Body President Zachary Fazio as well as Dr. Brown, Joe Bruner and Jennifer McChord.

“Our campus, and moreover, our generation, has a hunger to be involved and active for the betterment of our beautiful Christian communities. I am so excited about this conference as I believe it is merely the beginning for Asbury as we steer our student leaders to an enriching leadership development experience,” said Fazio.

The second day will provide in-depth training on ASC documents and procedures, equip student leaders with essential skills for their roles and foster a deeper understanding of the student body and its needs. Additionally, the conference will explore best practices for effective leadership and develop the student leader experience, skills and understanding.

The conference will also feature keynote speakers Dr. OJ Oleka and Dr. Asa James Swan.

Dr. OJ Oleka is the child of Nigerian immigrants whose mission is to end generational poverty in the United States. He himself is an example of how access to education can help families escape a life of poverty. He has previously served as President of the Association of Independent Kentucky Colleges and Universities (AIKCU) and was the Deputy Treasurer of Kentucky.

Dr. Asa James Swan is the founder and CEO of GREAT Leaders which is “a dynamic leadership-focused organization dedicated to creating gritty, relational, equipped, authentic and transformational (or GREAT) leaders through coaching, training and consulting,” according to his bio. He has previously served as the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s Chief of Staff and Legislative Liaison, as well as a history professor for Lindsey Wilson College.

All student leaders are encouraged to attend this event. Attendance is required for all members of ASC, branch members, class cabinet members and club presidents.

Students planning to attend should RSVP for the event as soon as possible so that ASC can ensure there is enough food for everyone. You can RSVP using the QR code on the conference poster.

The Asbury Bold Student Leaders Conference will be held in the CLC Auditorium on Oct. 11 from 6:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Oct. 12 from 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m.
