Health Mock Interviews

As students begin to take their midterm exams, write papers, and finish projects, twelve pre-med students are preparing for Health Mock Interviews. These mock interviews will take place on Friday, Oct. 12, from 8:30 a.m. until noon.

Six local healthcare professionals will be the interviewers for this event. Each student will meet with the interviewers in three separate interviews. Two of these interviews will be one-on-one, while the third will be a panel-style interview.

“The interviewers are local healthcare professionals who want to invest in Asbury students,” Health Professions Advisor Dr. Bruce Branan explained, “Three of them are Asbury alumni, one is a professor at a UK medical school and two of them operate their private practices in Nicholasville and Danville.”

These interviews will be held in the six business school interview rooms of the Walt and Rowena Shaw Collaborative Learning Center.

The interviews are “designed for pre-med, pre-dental and pre-physical therapy students, as those programs usually require interviews,” Dr. Branan said.

This event allows students to practice and prepare for future interviews. The interviewers will provide the students with feedback to help build their skills and ask questions they may encounter in a professional setting.

“It helps their presentation, of course, but perhaps more importantly, their self-confidence,” Dr. Branan noted. These mock interviews will help students gain confidence in their abilities and grow their communication skills at the same time.

“When you’ve experienced interviewing and have a feel for what sorts of questions will be asked,” Dr. Branan said, “it helps you avoid those awkward silences that occur when you don’t know what to say.”
