During this election season, the political atmosphere has been stressful and often overwhelming, especially for college students who may be voting for the first time in a presidential election.
On Nov 5, the Bi-partisan Discourse Club (BPDC) is hosting an Election Night Party at the World Gospel Mission (WGM) house at 6:30 pm. This is a campus-wide event and all students are invited. Students will get to take part in games, competitions, and a gift card giveaway that will take place throughout the evening. Food and drinks will also be provided during the party.
“The purpose of this event is to help Asbury students to be more informed about political events while making it lighthearted and as stress-free as possible,” Ashton Montgomery, the President of the BPCD, said, “we hope to foster meaningful conversations along with fun games while helping people understand what is going on with this election.”
Students will also have the opportunity to watch the Election coverage throughout the night. Electoral map coloring sheets will be provided so students can track the progress of the votes and compete to see who can guess the electoral votes as accurately as possible.
“For a long time, I was really uninformed about politics,” Montgomery said, “ and it actually made me really sad because it was not that I did not care; I just did not know how to find information and everyone’s strong opinions made me feel confused.”
While politics can be scary, overwhelming and frustrating, BPCD president Montgomery seeks to empower students to partake in civil political discourse without all the stress. Students are encouraged to join the party, jump into conversations and overcome their fears of discussing political topics.
