This Thanksgiving season, there are many organizations who are providing food assistance for those in need, and many of these organizations are also in need of volunteers.
God’s Food Pantry in Lexington is doing a Sharing Thanksgiving program. The program will distribute meals that will include a turkey and traditional Thanksgiving staples. These boxes will be passed out at various distribution points in Lexington during the week before Thanksgiving. Additionally, Southland Church will be hosting God’s Food Pantry and will serve over 8,500 meals Nov. 25 and 26.
Lexington Rescue Mission will be providing a hot Thanksgiving dinner to anyone in need on Thanksgiving Day at Broadway Christian Church, located at 187 North Broadway, Lexington, Ky.
The Catholic Action Center in Lexington will also be providing a traditional Thanksgiving meal, along with clothing and showering facilities for unhoused individuals. For more information, you can call (859) 255-0301.
The Fayette County Salvation Army is also hosting a Thanksgiving meal along with a food pantry. Their “Angel Tree” program also provides gifts for children and seniors, extending holiday support beyond just Thanksgiving. The Fayette County Salvation Army Thanksgiving meal will take place Thursday, Nov. 28, at 12 p.m. at 736 West Main Street, Lexington, Ky. This event is free and open to the community.
Additionally, many other organizations like the Jessamine County Food Pantry have already distributed boxes of food to families in need.
The work that these organizations do cannot happen without the help of volunteers and organizers. If you are interested in volunteering during this Thanksgiving season, there are many ways you can get involved.
