As the end of the semester rapidly approaches, Wilmore prepares for its annual Christmas kick-off event. The Wilmore Old Fashioned Musical Christmas is taking place on Dec. 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. This all-day Christmas extravaganza is an event that involves the entire community of Wilmore, including Asbury students.
The day begins bright and early with a pancake breakfast provided by the Lions Club at the Wilmore Municipal Center from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. It costs $5 per person and is only $1 for preschool-age kids.
If you are looking for some unique gifts for friends and family you can attend the Homemade Christmas Craft Fair beginning at 8:30 a.m. alongside the pancake breakfast in the Municipal Center. The craft fair gives everyone the opportunity to shop for Christmas goodies as well as support locals and their small businesses and hobbies.
Additionally, there will be a large model train display in the Municipal Center presented by Robin Grider beginning at 8:30 a.m. and running until 3 p.m. There will also be free mini-train rides offered at 11 a.m., leaving from the Municipal Center.
At 9 a.m., the Urban Village’s Christmas Market will open. This market is being hosted by the Wilmore Presbyterian Church on 100 N. Lexington Ave and will be open until 3 p.m.
At 10 a.m., the Main Street Market will open. There will be a variety of small businesses and shop vendors such as Shades of Bluegrass and the Special Blessings Shop. They will be open and offering Christmas sales along Wilmore’s Main Street.
Once you finish your shopping, you can make your way over to the Asbury Equine Center for their Christmas Open House to see the facilities and the equine residents from 1 to 3 p.m.
Wilmore’s Wesley Village will be hosting a Christmas Concert featuring the band The Metrognomes. The concert, beginning at 3 p.m., is free of charge and open to the public.
At 5:30 p.m. you can make your way down Main Street to the Med-Save, where the fully decorated town Christmas tree will be lit. The Salvation Army Brass Band will be playing during the tree lighting ceremony.
From 5:45 to 7:45 p.m., everyone will be invited to attend the Main Street Stroll. “Businesses, churches, and organizations will be open along Main Street featuring local musicians, light refreshments, and full menus at the local restaurants,” according to the City of Wilmore website.
The day will end with the grand finale in the Sanctuary Church where everyone is invited to come and sing Christmas carols with the All-Town Choir at 8 p.m.
