While the majority of students went home for winter break, both of Asbury’s basketball teams stuck around and kept competing for the purple and white. Here’s how the men’s and women’s teams respectively fared in the month of December.
Men’s Basketball
The men’s team started their break on the road in Louisville, at Boyce College. While the game came down to the wire, the Eagles ultimately fell to the Bulldogs 88-86. From there, the schedule unfortunately didn’t get any easier.
After three more losses throughout the end of December and beginning of January which, to be fair, were all on the road, the men’s squad would finish their winter break stretch with an 0-4 record. Their tally on the season overall now sits at 4-11, and 0-2 in conference play. The team will look to turn things around and improve their standing with much of the season still left to play.
Women’s Basketball
As far as the women’s team goes, their break bared a similar outcome. They’d slot one win on the road at Spalding University, 58-52, but otherwise, couldn’t find their rhythm.
The women, including two postponed games, went 1-3 over the break as a whole. All of their games were on the road as well, so the Eagles didn’t get the chance to defend home court once throughout the entire stretch. The team’s composite record is 5-7, and 1-1 in the conference.
Both the men’s and women’s teams have a large stretch of season still to go and will need all the support they can get to try and turn things around as they play through the new year.
