Asbury Athletics: Valentine’s Weekend Slate

Another weekend, another bout of games and matches for the Asbury Athletics department. Despite Valentine’s Day taking place on Feb. 14, there will be no lost love as Eagles across multiple sports look to take home victories over the holiday stretch.

Women’s Basketball

The women’s basketball team, who currently holds a respectable record of 12-7 overall (9-1 in-conference,) will travel to Jackson, Miss., on Saturday, Feb. 15 in their only game of the weekend to take on Belhaven University. The Eagles will look to continue their impressive nine-game win streak on the road in what is sure to be a hard-fought battle on both sides.

Men’s Basketball

Men’s basketball faces the same schedule down south, looking to improve on their 6-14 (2-5) mark on the season. Despite their underwhelming record, the Eagles are coming off a win and have the opportunity to string together a streak, starting on the road. A big chance for a team who could use a break as the season and schedule turn into the final stretch.

Women’s Tennis

The women’s tennis team will face two matchups on Saturday against Greenville University and Ohio Northern University. Both will take place in Nicholasville at the Top Seed Tennis Club. Coming away with wins this early in their season would provide a huge boost in momentum for the women’s squad.

Men’s Tennis

Men’s tennis (1-0) only face one match over the weekend in the form of a road bout at Centre College. Though it’s only one game, every win counts, and to improve to 2-0 at this mark in the season would go a long way for the unit going forward.

Baseball

The baseball team will begin their season on Saturday on the road against North Park University, in Berea. The team will stay in Berea to take on the College of Wooster before coming back home for a series against Kenyon College. The Eagles will jump at the opportunity to open their season the right way, even if they have to do it away from their home crowd.

Track and Field

Both the men’s and women’s track and field teams will spend the weekend at the Centre College Indoor Invitational in Danville. This marks the first of two straight events at the school down the road, with the second taking place in early March.

Swimming

Asbury’s swimming teams will compete over the weekend as a part of a four day competition in the Liberal Arts Conference Championships in Racine, Wis. The meet, beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 12, will mark the end of the season for men’s (3-6) and women’s (5-4) swimming.
