Band Night Concert

On Feb. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Jameson Recital Hall, there will be a concert presented by the Asbury Concert Band and Jazz Ensemble.

This is a free event open to all students as well as the community. “The purpose of band concerts are to grow our abilities to listen and play together,” said junior concert band member Lindsey Melhorn, “and to bring joy and emotion into our community.”

There will be a large repertoire performed by both the Concert Band and the Jazz Ensemble including songs such as “Rejouissance by Asbury Composer-in-Residence Emeritus James Curnow, “Puttin’ on the Ritz” arranged by Chris Sharp, “National Emblem” by E.E. Bagley and “Send in the Clowns arranged by Dave Barduhn.

Melhorn will be playing the oboe and the english horn in the Concert Band ensemble. “My favorite part about band concerts,” said Melhorn, “are when we all play a loud and beautiful chord at the end of a song and you can hear a ring in the concert hall.”

Dr. Glen Flanigan, professor and Coordinator of Instrumental Studies, will be conducting both of the ensembles for this concert. “My favorite part,” said Flanigan, “is hearing the great progress students have made on some challenging repertoire.”
