Asbury University, along with the Shaw School of Science, presents their annual Kids College day. The event is hosted by the Sigma Zeta Honors Society in the Collaborative Learning Center (CLC). The event is Saturday, March 1, and offers a morning session and an afternoon session. The morning session will run from 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Free lunch will be provided from 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. The afternoon session will run from 1:30 p.m. – 5 p.m.
This fun day filled with all things science is designed for children ages K-8th grade to learn about the natural world around them in a fun and entertaining environment. They will get to participate in activities like hands-on experiments, seeing different plants and animals in the labs and watching physics demonstrations.
Parents of children who have attended Kids College say these sessions offer inspiration, practical science experience as well as the excitement of being on a college campus.
The heart of Kids College is to get children excited about science, to show them science can be fun and to generate an early interest in STEM.
Asbury senior and biology major Natalie Hill said, concerning her experience volunteering for Kids College, “I like having the opportunity to view science with a child-like wonder again. I think Kids College offers children a good chance to see how fun science can be and how they can continue to do it the rest of their lives.”
Anyone can volunteer to help with this event. You do not have to be a STEM major to participate. Volunteers can sign up for one or both of the sessions.
