On April 11 and 12, Asbury University’s Media Communication and Theatre departments will welcome groups of high school students who are interested in pursuing a degree in either department.
“The event serves as a unique opportunity for prospective students to get a “behind-the-scenes” look into our media communication and theatre programs,” said Coordinator for Campus Visits and Events, Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Camille Sigrist, “These students not only have the usual opportunities to meet Asbury professors and current students, but they get to experience the Miller Center for Communication Arts at its finest.”
Check-in will begin at 8:00 a.m. in the Miller Center for Communication Arts lobby. Students will pick up their event folders and campus information before meeting in the Gyertson Screening room for their orientation.
Students will then have the opportunity to attend either a campus tour or a session led by Highbridge Film Festival Guest Judges Maria and David Barrera, award-winning actress and actor, titled “The Parts We Play: Discernment and Motivation in the Role Selection Process.”
After attending chapel with the rest of campus, students can attend another session led by the Barreras, titled “Navigating Representation: Authentic Storytelling and Breaking Stereotypes.”
Throughout the afternoon on both Fri. and Sat., students will be able to attend more sessions and explore Miller in a behind-the-scenes tour. On Sat. at 11:00 a.m. students interested in competing for scholarships can email Professor Kris Dietrich to sign up for an audition slot.
Students will also be allowed to attend Asbury’s production of Little Women in the Miller Greathouse Theatre Fri. at 7:30 p.m. and Sat. at 2:00 p.m., the Campbell Animation Lab ribbon-cutting ceremony Sat. at 3:00 p.m., and the Highbridge Film Festival at 7:00 p.m.
