The women of Oakland City defeated the Asbury women’s golf team at the NCCAA regional qualifiers.
“I’m disappointed for our girls,” Coach Scott Ferguson said. “I know that they have all worked very, very hard to be able to put themselves into a situation to get there. And honestly, we’ll get there. Today wasn’t our day and this weekend just wasn’t our weekend.”
Although the women were disappointed, senior Faith Wiley came in 2nd overall. It qualifies her as an individual to compete in the NCCAA Championship in Florida.
“I’m really proud of Faith Wiley,” Ferguson said. “She played excellently, and she put herself into a position to win the tournament. And then you know, that’s what we’ve come to expect with her and so I know she was disappointed. But I’m super proud of her.”
Even though she advanced, Wiley lost to the medalist spot by one stroke, making her victory bittersweet.
“I’m disappointed I didn’t win today,” Wiley said. “But it is nice knowing that I am going to Florida because I felt like I put in a lot of hard work and kept my game so far, and this is a nice accomplishment to stick to my resume.”
However, Wiley still might be joined by her team. Scores from the six teams who competed are averaged to fill two spots in the championship. The Asbury women expect to hear the results by this weekend.
