Two vehicle break-ins in Wilmore were reported by police, with several other accounts of unauthorized vehicle entry from social media under investigation.
Vehicles are said to be targeted randomly, with personal items and valuables being stolen when left in an unlocked car.
Wilmore Chief of Police, William Craig, said that vehicle break-ins of this nature are expected during the holiday season, though caution is still advised. “It’s not like a sudden up-tick in illegal entries,” said Craig. “The break-ins tend to happen to unlocked cars left in store parking lots while the owner is busy holiday shopping. If you look historically, this is just what tends to happen during this time of the year.”
In the comments section of a post regarding the break-ins from Nov. 19 on the Wilmore Police Department Facebook page, Wilmore resident Jen Isbell gave an account of one such incident. “My car was gone through on Tuesday night,” Isbell said. “Evidently, this guy is on a bike due to other footage on here.”
The Wilmore Police Department asks that, if you witness or suspect a vehicle break-in, you contact them at (859) 858-3535 or visit their office at 210 South Lexington Avenue. They also advise removing valuables from vehicles and keeping vehicles locked to prevent theft or tampering.
