‘Coffee and Canvas’ event to take place on Oct. 5

As the weather slowly but surely brings change, another one of Asbury University’s annual events rounds the corner.

“In past years, we have held ‘Coffee and Canvas’ on Reasoner Green, and that is the plan again for this year,” said Zoe Bobb, a Student Activities Congress (SAC) team member. “The setting of this event is super relaxed. We set up tables and blankets for people and have paint supplies for all who come.”

SAC offers another event to bind the Asbury community together.

“Out of all the events that we do on campus, ‘Coffee and Canvas’ has the most defined atmosphere. People know what to expect when they come to this event, and I think that is why people love it so much. Through this event, we do what we do because we love to see people in relationship with one another – whether that is making new friends, reconnecting with others, or building the ones that you have. Our hope is that if someone shows up to a SAC event alone, they do not feel stressed, excluded or anxious, because they are welcomed and they belong here.”

As the name suggests, “Coffee and Canvas” involves those two things.

“The main event is painting. Last year, we had canvases, tote bags and also provided records to paint on. We expect to have more of those things this time around as well,” said Bobb. “And of course, we have coffee from the HICCUP. Drip coffee, cold brew, tea and other fun snacks will all be provided.”

Another integral part of this campus event is the live music that is provided by student musicians.

“‘Coffee and Canvas’ is one of the main events on campus that allows our musicians to perform in front of the student body,” said Bobb. “It is a huge part of the event, and we have interviews and submissions that we accept prior to the event. It is a great time for students to fellowship with one another while listening to music and painting together.”

Sept. 23 is the final deadline for musical submissions. Bobb remarked that on Sept. 30, SAC is expected to send feedback to the performers. ‘Coffee and Canvas’ will take place on Oct. 5.
