The Asbury University Communication and Theatre Arts Department will host a theatrical event in the Greathouse Theatre this weekend.
This Cabaret performance, created by Asbury Theater Majors, documents the students’ journey through college. Ella Anderson is the head writer for the production. Bek Askey, who directed the restored class of the sophomore musical, created the set design and is the show’s producer. Hannah Young is the Stage Manager and Josie Pruitt is the Vocal Director.
“The performance is tied together by the theme ‘Journey,’ specifically the college journey at Asbury,” Head Writer Ella Anderson explained, “It pulls songs from multiple musicals to highlight different stages of the journey.”
The Cabaret will include songs from musicals like “Wicked,” “Shrek,” “Matilda,” “Something Rotten” and many more. Songs from popular movies such as “The Muppets,” “The Greatest Showman” and others will also be featured in the performance.
The actors have written their own dialogue to transition between each musical number, adding a unique twist to the show.
“Actors were each encouraged to write their own transition dialogue that felt natural to their experience,” said Anderson.
The Cabaret will open with a performance on Friday, Sept. 27, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. On Saturday, there will be an additional matinee performance at 2:30 pm. The Cabaret will close with the final performance on Saturday evening from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm.
“All of the Theatre students have created this to showcase the college journey we all experience in an entertaining way, and we hope everyone enjoys it,” said Anderson.
Students can buy tickets for only $5 and are encouraged to attend and support their friends in the Theatre Department.
General Admission tickets are $10. Asbury Faculty and staff, as well as senior citizens, can get tickets for only $7.
