Fall has officially come to Wilmore. As the ginkgo trees turn yellow, here are some fun things to do in Wilmore if you are staying on campus over fall break, Thursday and Friday Oct. 17 and 18.
Before campus shuts down, the music department has two shows. On Monday, Oct. 14, there is an alumni percussion recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday is the orchestra’s pajama concert in the Radar Student Center at 9 p.m.
Asbury Athletics has three home games. Men’s soccer is playing Boyce College at 7 p.m. on the soccer field. The volleyball team is playing Anderson University at 7 p.m. in the Luce. Women’s soccer plays against Piedmont University on Thursday at 12 p.m.
Asbury’s Kentucky Outdoor Institute (KOI) is spending their Saturday at Red River Gorge for some rock climbing. Reach out to KOI for more information on the trip! The gorge is a gorgeous place to join in some climbing, hiking or a stop at Miguel’s Pizza.
Over the break, Michelle Kratzer and the Asbury Outreach Coalition are taking students to participate in disaster recovery following Hurricane Helene. Kratzer and her team are planning to go to Johnson City, TN. They plan to be working on cleaning out spaces that have been flooded as well as food and supply distribution. NBC news reports at least 223 people dead and many still unaccounted for due to the extreme damage caused by the storm.
If you fancy a walk off campus, here are some things going on in Wilmore. On Friday night, Fitch’s IGA is hosting Friday Burger Night. Burgers are $6 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Wilmore Farmer’s Market will be open Saturday until noon. Lastly, the Railside Caboose Museum will be open 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The caboose is open through the month of October.
Shaker Village is hosting trick-or-treat on Friday and Saturday from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Hayrides, music, pony rides and tons of candy are just a drive away. Gather treats and tricks as you go along the Village road. This event does require a ticket that can be purchased for $8.
If you want to go a little bit further, Nicholasville and Lexington are full of activities for you to get involved in. The Jessamine Fall Festival Parade starts Saturday at 10 a.m. on Asbury Drive. The festival will continue later in the day and showcase local vendors, live music and a car show from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, Lexington is hosting the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen’s Fall Artist Market. This is an annual market presented by the Kentucky Artisan Center. The market features Kentucky artists, food trucks and music.
There are so many activities to get involved in over fall break! Whether you take a hike with KOI, visit a farmers market or catch up on some sleep, you will not be bored this October.
