Athlete of the week spotlight: Hannah Muncie

As the season continues, one player from the women’s soccer team was selected this past week as one of the athletes of the week.

Sitting down with junior Hannah Muncie, she shared some thoughts on the season so far, saying, “It’s going really good. We’ve had more wins I think than we’ve had both of my other seasons here in the past. That’s props to bringing good freshmen in and also finally getting a rhythm under our belts, and Zach, our new coach, getting his own recruits in and getting his coaching strategy fully immersed in the team.”

“My two goals in our first-ever conference game was a pretty big deal,” said Muncie when asked why she thought she was selected for athlete of the week. “Obviously, props to my teammates for being able to get me the ball to score those goals and put me in those positions.”

When asked about some of the other difference-makers on the team, Muncie said, “It’s really hard to just point out a few. I think Reese [Bolton] is a really good player as our six. Our back line’s been doing really well. Anna Sparks is one of our outside backs. She’s been scoring a lot of goals for us and been really good at getting into the attack, even as a defender. All across the board, I think everybody’s been on the same page and just giving all of their effort on the field every time we step out there. It’s been really awesome to have that kind of energy and that kind of environment.”

“When we set our goals at the beginning of the season, we said that we wanted above a 500 record, so that means winning over half of our games,” said Muncie. “[And] being top six in the conference, because that will give us a chance at the post-season conference tournament.  I think we have full potential to do that.”

When asked what she wanted to say to the Asbury student body, she said, “We work really, really hard. Being a student-athlete is really hard at times and this season we have a ton of away games. So, whenever we do get the chance to play at home, it just is really encouraging whenever we have a lot of people out there supporting us. I would just encourage the student body to come out to our games and every other sporting event’s games, just because the life of a student athlete can be really hard at times, and knowing that we have the support of our fellow students really helps and really encourages us a lot.”
