The second weekend of October marks Asbury’s athletics visit weekend, wherein families of the players in purple come to see campus and check in on their competitors.
This year’s iteration of the event is maybe the most exciting it’s ever been considering the multi-sport move to a new conference, as well as the implementation of the upgraded and relocated track and field just beyond the Luce.
On Saturday, Oct. 12, the Asbury swim team is set to host the annual alumni meet. In addition to coinciding with the visit weekend, the Alumni Meet serves as a preseason buffer of sorts. It’s a way to celebrate the swim program, both for the way the tide crashes now and the way that it once did.
Aside from the Alumni Meet, both soccer squads will unfortunately be out of town for the weekend as they continue to work through their early-season schedules.
The men’s team will travel to Georgia to take on LaGrange College. They’ll look to improve on their current 4-3-2 overall record. Three of their next four matches will be on enemy turf, but given their solid play thus far, the Eagles are in a good position to make it out of the gauntlet alive.
On the other side of the pitch, the women’s unit will be in Montgomery, Alabama on Oct. 12 to battle Huntingdon College. Similarly to the men, they stand at a respectable 4-3-3 with a lot of room to grow upwards.
Despite three of their next four games also being on the road, they’ll look to overcome the given obstacles and head into senior night at home on a high note later this month. Both teams will surely benefit from entering such a difficult string of games with a winning record.
Beyond this coming weekend, Eagles golf will get started in late October just before the basketball teams kick off their seasons in early November. Asbury athletics is gearing up for full takeoff, and the visit weekend is set to lay the groundwork for the beginning of another successful year in school sports.
