The annual Eagle Sales Competition will be taking place on Nov 20 and 21 in the Walt and Rowena Shaw Collaborative Learning Center (CLC). Students will compete in the Sales Roleplay Suite.
In this year’s tournament-style competition, the participants are all students from Dr. George Allen’s Market 343: Fundamentals of Professional Selling class. There will be cash prizes as well as gift card prizes for the students who place the highest in the competition.
“Students conduct a sales call in our state-of-the-art role play suite equipped with cameras and microphones, allowing us to live-stream their performance into a nearby classroom,” Dr. Allen explained, “Judges rate their performance in an online system while watching them on a video monitor, giving them an opportunity to advance in the competition and win cash prizes and other recognition.”
The panel of judges consists of Asbury faculty and staff, local business people and alumni of the Asbury sales program. “The judges rate students on their performance in a few areas,” junior Marketing major Zoe Bobb said, “their ability to complete all steps of the sales process, communication skills and professionalism.”
This competition allows students to get vital experience in the world of sales, get feedback from judges and hone their skills. “I will be competing this year for the second time,” Bobb said, “ I was able to compete last year and it was my first time selling. It helped me to fall in love with sales and I had so much fun!”
Bobb explained that because of the competition, she was able to compete in last year, she is now pursuing sales as part of her major and has joined the Asbury Sales Team.
The sales competition has grown since last year and almost doubled the number of students competing this year, making it the largest Eagle Sales Championship in the program’s history.
