Sophomore Caitlin Conyers continued her bid for the KIAC women’s tennis player of the year with an impressive performance in her wins in both singles competition and doubles. In singles competition, Conyers won two quick matches with a score of 6-3 and 6-2 respectively. In doubles competition, Conyers’ team with junior Sarah Beth Alford had another impressive victory winning their match 8-2.

Coach Jarred Miller, in his sixth season as the women’s tennis team head coach, said, “[Today’s match] concluded a wonderful streak by Caitlin Conyers in finishing undefeated in the conference in both singles and doubles in the number one spot.[/column]

However, Asbury doesn’t have long to celebrate their win. Next weekend marks the beginning of tournament play in the KIAC conference and Coach Miller wants to make sure his team is ready. “It’s been a good season and we are looking forward to our quest to win the conference championship tournament next weekend.”

The matchup for the Eagles still hasn’t been decided, but Miller is preparing his team for what he expects to see. “We will likely play Carlow University in the semifinals and then IU Southeast in the final. We are working really hard to make some tactical skill changes…there were some skills that were missing…and some nerves that hopefully we can avoid,” Miller said. “We hope to have a strong week of practice in the next few days and will be ready for the tournament on Friday and Saturday.”
