River Rock Music Festival comes to Wilmore

By Hannah Stafford News Editor

Students had the opportunity to see some of the top performers in contemporary Christian music live last weekend in Wilmore. On Sept. 15 and 16, the River Rock Music Festival was held at the Servant Heart Farm at 9517 Harrodsburg Road, former home of the Christian music festival known as Icthus. The show began at 11 a.m. and lasted until 10 p.m. both days, and featured artists such as Jeremy Camp, Newsboys, Danny Gokey and Hawk Nelson.

“I had an amazing time,” said sophomore Sydney Scheller. “I loved seeing the Wilmore community come together to worship Jesus alongside amazing musicians…it was a great experience and I would love to go again next year!”

Asbury University partnered with Lighthouse Events, a nationally-known organization based out of Maine, and the owner of River Rock to bring the festival here. Asbury professors and students alike worked in the technical production of the show.

“[The Media Communications program] provide students through our multi-cam, television production course,” said Adam Wilson, technical manager for the School of Communication Arts, shortly before the festival began. “Those students [facilitated] the roles of camera operators and other positions that are typical to television production.”

In addition to this, Wilson and Asbury Communication Arts Operations Manager Don Mink directed the festival shows.

The River Rock Festival was founded in 2007 as a part of Lighthouse Events by Jeff and Gail Wall, and has now facilitated over 350 concerts. Their hope, as stated on their website, is that “people will be encouraged, people will use our events to reach out to family, friends, neighbors and co-workers, and people will be drawn to Christ.”
