After serving its community for over 100 years, Sims’ Pizzeria and Ice Cream Parlor has officially closed its doors as of Jan. 30. As a culinary cornerstone in the Wilmore community, Sims’ was known for being a mecca of handcrafted foods, ice cream and one of the best, and only, milkshakes in town.
According to a post from its official Facebook page, Sims’ was unable to adhere to its landlord’s demands. “[The demands] have gotten steadily harder to comply with over the last three years, and this time are way over the top,” the post stated.
With its retro 1950s inspired decor, Sims’ has left a lasting impression on Wilmore and its customers. With multiple five star ratings on Tripadvisor and Yelp, Sims’ was “a nice place to grab a lunch or cool off with some ice cream” and “certainly a place to return to for pizza,” according to reviews.
The community and locals also impacted Sims’. “We made many new friends and in fact, I don’t think I ever met a stranger in Wilmore,” stated the restaurant’s Facebook post. “Everyone is so warm and friendly, it made it a joy to come to work every day.”
“We will miss everyone here in Wilmore and always remember our time here with a smile,” Sims’ said in its post. Although the restaurant will be permanently closed, Sims’ Drugs will remain open.
