The Appointed class has been surveying for proposal ideas and is working on venues for Jr./Sr. 2020. The Visionary class is working on proposals to address paying the senior class president and upgrading dorm shower heads, as well as planning class lunch. The Merciful class is working on Senior Showcase, Chapel and Retreat. It has a proposal for next SGA meeting.
New Business Proposals
Proposal was passed to insert ten baby changing stations in the bathrooms of Hughes Auditorium, Morrison, Reasoner, the cafeteria and the Stuce. The proposal addresses the needs of commuters who have children, as well as members of the surrounding community, with stations in both the mens’ and womens’ restrooms. The approximate cost will run between $150-200 a station, at approximately $1-2k coming out of Community Impact fund.
The Faithful class proposed adding six trash cans around the freshman parking lot to provide space for trash after sports events or late-night food runs. Discussion points included the possibility of bugs, implementing more trash can locations in the future (through a bigger proposal or phases), the effect on physical plant’s responsibilities and the type and cost of trash reciprocals. A possible amendment to lower the number of cans was voted down.
The Advocacy and Comprehension Committee proposed encouraging hiring more diverse faculty. Based on the third initiative of the Imagine 2022 campaign, hiring faculty of color would encourage diversity on Asbury’s campus and increase cultural awareness, as well as provide cultural sensitivity and awareness training for all faculty and staff. Discussion included acknowledging no need for method of implementation since it’s more of an official recommendation that ASC endorses improving faculty diversity.
