Where Are They Now? A feature on Asbury alumna, Anna Giaritelli

By Paige Miller, Features Editor

Anna Giaritelli is an alumna of Asbury University and a member of the Fearless class of 2011.

During her four years at Asbury, Giaritelli studied journalism and used her free time to work as a Collegian newspaper staff writer.

Since graduating, Giaritelli has held several jobs and has worked for numerous different companies. Some of those jobs included working at Ann Taylor, packaging Hanes socks in a warehouse, writing for CQ Roll Call newspaper, working at Cox Media Group and even expanding to nonprofits and an immigration policy group on Capitol Hill.

Giaritelli’s experience in the Asbury journalism department helped her get an internship with the Washington Examiner in 2010, a publication for which she is now the Homeland Security Reporter.

“That was a cool full circle to make, but I also consider covering what I cover to be an accomplishment. Lots of people just keep chasing the next best thing in their 20s and 30s, and I don’t want to think about what’s next because the present is so perfect,” says Giaritelli.

Her best advice for graduating seniors is to “save your money.”

Giaritelli said she moved in with her parents for two years after college when it seemed most Asbury graduates were moving to Lexington.

“Doing so allowed me to save money so that down the road when I got an opportunity to move to D.C. for an internship with no promise of long term work, I could take it and sustain myself. Make the tough call now, and you won’t be moving in with your parents when you’re 25,” said Giaritelli.

During her time at Asbury, Giaritelli loved the physical aspect of campus.

“Just walking to class under the Reasoner arches, sitting on the semicircle after the grass was freshly cut, sitting in the cafe and looking around at everyone. Those little moments became a giant memory, and thinking about those things makes me smile to this day,” says Giaritelli.
