Tumbling team preps for Jym Jam

The Asbury tumbling team is reaching a performance-heavy stretch of its season, and it kicked off over spring break. While students traveled all around the world during the week off, this team spent it touring.

The team tours every year for break, always in a different location. Last year, the destination was St. Louis, Missouri, and the year before that was Atlanta, Georgia. Head coach Rebecca Vaughn organized the trip this year, which included several stops throughout Ohio and a couple towns in Kentucky.

“We do performances and clinics at schools, churches, community centers, etc.,” Vaughn said. “This tour, we did 12 performances and also did three service projects in our downtime. I think it was a good experience. We had a lot of fun.”

Junior Summar Bussey said it was different from other years she had experienced. “With having a [new] head coach, there is a lot of transitional changes, but overall, it was still a wonderful experience,” Bussey said.

The next big endeavor for the group is Jym Jam here at the Luce Center. This is the team’s annual home performance, and the entire community is encouraged to come out and see what the team has been working on.

“Jym Jam is similar to the performance we do during tour, but we add a couple extra things,” said Vaughn. “Overall, the team practices a couple times every week starting in September.”

Vaughn said she expects the community to enjoy this year’s event just like every other year. Last year, they completely filled the bleachers and set out chairs along the perimeter of the gym.

This year, Jym Jam will be at 6 p.m. on April 5 and 6.
