Class chaplains are in charge of organizing the meetings on the same day and time in the hopes of providing a time for each class to fellowship together.
“Our class identity is such an essential and unique part of Asbury’s culture. It goes far beyond T-shirts, stickers, Legacy Games and overall class pride. Class renewal is a way classes come together and focus our class identity in Christ,” said Student Body President Maggie Richwine.
Visionary Class Secretary Caleb Shaffer said his favorite renewal so far was a gathering on Sept. 3, where Dr. Devin Brown compared the transformation in students’ lives to Bilbo’s character development in “The Hobbit.”
According to Shaffer, the cabinet has decided the seniors’ theme for the renewal is going to be “finishing the year well, while also planning adequately for the future after graduation.”
Aside from the renewals being a time for community and bonding, Vice President for Spiritual Life Olivia Loy said, “It also gives students an opportunity to relax and be (spiritually) re-charged every month.”
Each month every class cabinet plans a Class Renewal that is based on worship. This is a “time of renewal through fellowship, testimony, prayer and worship,” according to Assistant Chaplain and Director of Spiritual Life Jeanie Banter.
“Some months class renewals may focus on prayer, while other months a speaker may come in to share with the class,” Banter said.
