As the women’s soccer season begins, Asbury senior Jordan Holt prepares for her final season as an Eagle.
The Granite Bay, California native started her collegiate journey playing in Lexington, for the University of Kentucky Wildcats. After graduating, Holt looked to continue her academic career while keeping her options open for athletics. She decided to pursue a masters degree in digital storytelling at Asbury.
“Digital storytelling has been an incredible combination of everything I’m interested in. This program has allowed me to strengthen my skills in writing, TV production, campaign work, and public speaking,” said Holt.
Holt says she wants to tell the best stories in sports and has found a place that can help her reach her goals.
Although her opportunity here was driven by academics and sports, she’s learned that there’s much more to Asbury.
“I’ve had a great experience at Asbury. I’ve been part of the community for a little over a year now, and I feel right at home,” she said. “I have so much respect for the Christ-centered learning, the amazing professors, and my family with the women’s soccer program. My coaches and teammates have embraced me with open arms from the very beginning.”
She also knows that being a student-athlete has its challenges and its rewards.
“The most rewarding aspect of being a student-athlete is getting to go to battle with my teammates under the lights on game day,” she said. “I love the grind, the competition, the comradery and glorifying God through sport. The most challenging part of being a student-athlete for me has been overcoming injuries. It’s been more of an emotional battle than physical. I’ve had four knee surgeries and hip surgery. It’s been a journey, but worth it regardless.”
The memory of telling her father she wanted to play college soccer when she was 8 years old continues to motivate her off and on the field.
“Now that I’m a senior, I look back on that little girl who fell in love with the game and I play for her,” said Holt.
The support of her family has guided Holt to where she is now.
“My family has always supported my pursuit of my dreams on and off the field. I wouldn’t be where I am today without their love and guidance,” said Holt.
Holt made her impact as soon as she arrived on campus, starting in 10 games last season. She took a season high 4 shots and had 2 game winning goals to start the season, running away with conference player of the week honors. She was also an important reason for the team winning the River States Conference regular season title.
Holt has high expectations for the upcoming season.
“I only have two personal goals for this season. The first is to consistently bring a high performance to every game for my team. The second is to enjoy every moment of my final season,” she said. “In considering team goals, we want a conference championship and our tickets punched to the national tournament. It’s going to take a lot of work, but this team is so strong and has a ton of fight.”
