Asbury holds day of prayer and rest

Asbury University held a “day of prayer and rest” on Tuesday, Sept. 29.

In a statement released by the university, President Kevin J. Brown said that the day was created to give the campus community space to pray for the unrest and uncertainty the world is currently facing.

“2020 has been a year of loss. Like the rest of the world, our community is confronted by fear and anxiety, economic uncertainty, racial injustice, and a contentious and inflammatory fall election. There is fear, anger, and mourning—even in our own community,” said Brown via email.

Due to the loss and difficulties we are all facing, Brown called for the community to take an entire day to be active in prayer.

Bennet-Bernard was open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., with a member of the community guiding prayer and reflection every hour to facilitate the prayerful day. A schedule of leaders and prayer topics was emailed to the campus community by Spiritual Life.

The last event of the day was a time of prayer and a worship session around a bonfire hosted at the World Gospel Mission Student Center.
