Asbury Student Congress (ASC) is a student-led body representing different clubs, organizations and academic groups on campus. ASC meetings are held once every month in Hughes Auditorium and are typically open for all students to attend, but are currently only open to members due to coronavirus regulations. The next meeting is Oct. 27 at 10:50 a.m.
ASC is currently reviewing the allotment of the $99 student fee. Dr. Sarah Baldwin, the representative for Student Programming, presented this week. She explained how Student Programming utilizes their share of the student fee. Student Programming gets $8 of the $99 from every student, which is put towards groups and programs like Spotlight Career Fair, Embrace Conference, Alpha and health and fitness programs. Student Programming currently receives approximately $16,000 per year, and is requesting an additional $4,000 to enhance the Intramurals program.
Branch Reports:
Student Governance Association (SGA) recently finished the Courageous Class cabinet election; the newly elected cabinet came on stage and introduced themselves.
Spiritual Life Board (SLB) had nothing to report.
Student Intercultural Programs (SIP) launched the You-nited Campaign on social media, which will continue throughout the month.
Club and Congress Operations (CCO) announced that there are club events coming soon.
Class Reports:
Appointed hosted their second spiritual life event of the semester on Oct. 15 at WGM and is planning a class movie night.
Faithful is researching venue options for Junior/Senior, is partnering with the Caribbean Club for an event on Oct. 23, and is hosting a class bonfire on Oct. 24.
Surrendered made the decision to postpone their sophomore retreat until next semester. They are planning their Christmas party, which will be on Nov. 12 at WGM.
Courageous had nothing to report.
Proposals:
Parking ticket proposal: Proposed by Joy Pidgorodetska and the Faithful Class. Proposing a clarification to the appeals process. They suggest that submitting a picture of the parking ticket helps clarify that you have received the parking ticket and are fully aware of your infraction, helps the parking and safety committee smoothly read through all the appeals assessing correct parking tickets requesting to be appealed and provides physical documentation of the parking ticket received. The proposal passed.
Eagle Bucks proposal: Proposed by Brady Buher and the Appointed Class. Proposes that eagle bucks be used to include purchasing tickets for recitals, theater productions, class events, etc, as available. Wherever tickets for events are sold students could be able to use Student ID to purchase tickets. The proposal passed.
Open Floor Announcements and Club Reports:
The Asburian is planning the fall portrait event which will take place in the Stuce in November. They will also be holding a pass out day for last year’s Asburian.
AEI hosted an event at WGM on Oct. 13.
The Pitts Center hosted an event on Civil Discourse on Oct. 15.
Athletics hosted a prayer night where they walked through the athletic facilities and prayed over each team.
The Kinlaw/Luce Proposal has been approved by the President’s Cabinet.
