The NBA finished its 2019-2020 season with the Los Angeles Lakers winning the championship over the Miami Heat in early October.
All NBA activity had been put on hold in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
With months of countless meetings, brainstorming and planning, the commissioner of the league decided to incorporate the “bubble” system to allow a safe environment for the players to play and finish out this season. You could say the “bubble” was a success for the NBA.
“We had zero positive tests,” MVP LeBron James said before repeating the bubble’s best stat, according to The Los Angeles Times. “We had zero positive tests for as long as we were here, 90-some days, 95 days maybe for myself. I had a little calendar I was checking off. But on a serious note, no positive tests. That’s a success for everybody that was involved.”
This was a first-time situation for the NBA. Regardless of the minor errors and uncontrollable factors, the league was able to handle the virus and was able to successfully resume the season.
What’s next for the league? The NBA draft is set for Nov. 18. Free agency will start in December, though the start date for next season has yet to be announced.
