Asbury men’s basketball: A new season and a fresh start

The Eagles’ season is underway and it is off to a hot start.

The Eagles are 2-0 start after defeating Johnson University in Asbury’s home opener and Cumberland University on the road in Nashville.

Senior guard and captain Siah Holifield said he feels great about the Eagles early success. “We’ve yet to play our best basketball, yet we’ve still managed to be 2-0 against teams that beat us in the previous year.”

Last season the Eagles lost to Johnson and Cumberland at home. The Cumberland loss came on a last-second shot.

Playing away games isn’t always the best scenario for teams but it is a much-needed challenge.

“Our last win was the best feeling with it being a road win against a competitive Midsouth team,” said Holifield.

Regardless of the early success, improvement is what the Eagles are looking for in order for them to reach their ultimate goal.

The Eagles still have work to do but significantly improved offensive efficiency and much better one-on-one defense is helping.
